Fantasy Six Pack: Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Blue

by on 01/23/2012

Welcome to this week’s edition of Fantasy Six Pack. In Week 16 we take a look at each position and suggest five players you might want add to your team. We then pick a sixth player that we don’t see paying poolies immediate dividends but we expect will be helpful down the road. We hope you find these articles useful and gain a competitive advantage over your opponents. Feel free to discuss omissions and critique our selections in the comments section. We love discussion here at PuckPuckGoose.com.

Kyle Turris, Center, Ottawa Senators

13 points in 16 games and only owned in 19% of Yahoo! leagues. I told you so here and here.

Honourable Mentions: David Legwand (NAS), Mike Fisher (NAS) and David Desharnais (MTL)

Jason Blake, Left Wing, Anaheim Ducks

8 points in 8 games since returning from a wrist laceration. He’s plays even-strength on the third line but also gets time on the second power play. He won’t maintain his torrid scoring pace but he’s a good band-aid solution if injuries have decimated your lineup recently.

Honourable Mentions: Niklas Hagman (ANA), Mason Raymond (VAN) and Carl Hagelin (NYR)

Teddy Purcell, Right Wing, Tampa Bay Lightning

5 goals in his last 6 games. Another streaky player, ride him while he’s hot. He doesn’t contribute in any categories other than SOG and points.

Honourable Mentions: Michael Grabner (NYI), Jimmy Hayes (CHI) and Devin Setoguchi (MIN)

Ryan Ellis, Defense, Nashville Predators

If you’re looking for power play points from the back end, Ellis would be your man. He has 6 points in 12 games with 4 of them coming on the man advantage. He’s slowly seeing more minutes every game, worthy of a look and a pick up. He’ll make a great fifth defensemen on your team.

Honourable Mentions: Jay Harrison (CAR), Travis Hamonic (NYI) and Stefan Elliott (COL)

Sergei Bobrovsky, Goaltender, Philadelphia Flyers

Mr. Humongous big hasn’t been able to string together consistent performances while Bob has been strong in all his performances as of late. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bob take over down the stretch as the Flyers battle for playoff position.

Honourable Mentions: Evgeni Nabakov (NYI), Jonathan Bernier (LAK) and Curtis Sanford (CBJ)

Ales Hemsky, Right Wing, Edmonton Oilers

By far my biggest gamble of the season, Hemsky is so injury prone he makes Sami Salo and Rick DiPetro look like ironmen. 6 points in his last 9 games. I think he’s worth a pick up for two reasons, I think he’s going to be traded in the coming weeks to a team that can get the most out of him, maybe Detroit or Pittsburgh and he has the skills to produce at a very high level. I won’tblame you if you wait to see if he stays healthy past this week or until he gets traded.

Honourable Mentions: James Reimer (TOR), Mikael Samuelsson (FLA) and Alex Tanguay (CGY)
